What should I do after submitting my college application?

I just hit submit on all my college applications, and honestly, it's kinda surreal. What’s the best use of my time now? Are there things I should be doing to follow up or prepare for the next steps?

Congrats on completing such a significant step in the college admissions journey! Here are some suggestions for what you can do next:

1. Ensure Confirmation: After submitting your applications, you typically receive a confirmation email from the colleges. Check your inbox and spam folder. If you don't see confirmation within 48 hours, contact the admissions office to double-check they received your application.

2. Keep Track of Deadlines: Even though you've sent in your applications, there still might be a few deadlines ahead. Some colleges might have deadlines for financial aid forms, like the FAFSA or CSS Profile, that could come after the application deadline. If you're applying for scholarships, be aware of those deadlines as well.

3. Monitor Your Email: Colleges often communicate through email, so check it regularly. You might receive requests for additional information or be invited to optional interviews.

4. Stay Engaged Academically: Continue working hard in your classes, as colleges want to see that you maintain your academic performance throughout the year. If you were deferred or waitlisted, continuing strong academic performance is particularly important, as colleges may ask for an updated transcript.

5. Plan College Visits: If you haven't done so already, visiting campuses can provide a deeper understanding of your potential future colleges. Remember, choosing a college isn't just about getting in – it also involves finding a school where you'll thrive.

6. Thank you notes: Consider sending a note to the teachers, counselors, or coaches who wrote your letters of recommendation. A simple thank you note to express your appreciation for their support can go a long way.

7. Prioritize Self-Care: Applying to college is a significant accomplishment! Take this chance to breathe and regain some energy while waiting for decisions.

That's pretty much it! Now it's really a waiting game. Decisions often come out in late March or early April for regular decision applications. While waiting can be difficult, remember that you've done all you can at this point. Good luck!
