What Should I Know About Applying to Modesto Junior College?

I'm considering applying to Modesto Junior College and was wondering what the application process is like. Are there any specific requirements, especially if I'm interested in the ADN program?

Modesto Junior College has a fairly straightforward application process, and it's free to apply. The application is available year-round on their website, and you'll be applying through the California Community College's online CCCApply portal. Here's the general process:

1. Create an OpenCCC account, fill out the application form through CCCApply, and submit it.

2. Receive your MJC ID number by email, usually within a few days.

3. Complete the online orientation available through MJC's student portal.

4. If needed, assess your English and Math skills. This is no longer a testing requirement but a guided self-placement process, where you'll answer questions to determine the best class placement for you in these subjects.

5. Develop an educational plan with a counselor via the Student Success Specialist office.

As for the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program, there are additional prerequisites and process steps:

1. You must complete certain prerequisite courses with a "C" grade or better. These include Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology.

2. Obtain the score of 62% or higher on the ATI TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills).

3. You must possess a valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) California certification.

After fulfilling these prerequisites, you would apply to the ADN program during one of their application periods—usually in the spring and fall. The selection for the ADN program is based on a lottery system, rather than grades or test scores.

Before starting any program, it's a good idea to meet with an advisor to discuss your plans and confirm any prerequisite or application requirements.
