Transferring to Claremont McKenna College?

I'm interested in transferring to Claremont McKenna College, but I'm unsure about their transfer acceptance rates and policies. What are the key factors they look for in transfer students?

Claremont McKenna College (CMC) is one of the more competitive schools for transfer admission, so it's great that you're doing your research. In general, CMC, like most schools, will want to see you've maintained a strong academic record at your current college, and that you have a good reason for wanting to transfer.

They are keen to see an upward trajectory in your GPA; the average GPA of successful transfer applicants is usually pretty high - around 3.5 or above. Don't stress too much if your grades aren't quite at this level, CMC also looks at how challenging your courses were and will consider significant improvements in grades.

A standout part of a transfer application is the essays. CMC will want you to explain why you are interested in transferring in clear and compelling terms. What is it about the programs, the campus culture, or the overall CMC experience that aligns with your academic or professional goals? You should do careful research into CMC's offerings and culture, so you can be specific about why CMC fits your goals better than your current institution.

As with freshman applicants, CMC also places high importance on extracurricular involvement. They'll want to see that you've been involved on your current campus and that you plan to bring your interest and skills to CMC. Whether that's a club, sport, on-campus employment, or volunteering, make sure to highlight the impact you've had on your current campus.

Keep in mind there is a critical deadline: the application must be submitted by the March 15th deadline for a fall entry. Recommendations are not required of transfer applicants but are accepted. Also, note that financial aid is available for transfer students, and CMC guarantees to meet 100% of demonstrated financial need for admitted transfer candidates.

Each application is reviewed holistically, so it’s important to understand that no particular factor is the deciding determiner of admission. Best of luck with your application!
