Does UT have a policy for transferring community college credits?

Can anyone share their experience or knowledge with transferring community college credits to any UT school, like Austin or Dallas? I'm starting at a community college and hope to plan my classes correctly.

The University of Texas system, including campuses like Austin and Dallas, does have a policy for transferring credits from community colleges, and it can indeed be a beneficial strategy to begin your studies at a community college and then transfer.

One important tool used across Texas is the Automated Transfer Equivalence (ATE) system, which provides a database of courses that are transferable among Texas public colleges and universities. This database works on a course-by-course basis, meaning you can input each community college class you're considering to see if it transfers over to a UT school. Remember each school in the UT system may have different requirements and equivalencies, so be sure to search by the specific UT campus you plan to attend.

The equivalency results should tell you the exact match of the course in the UT system. For example, an "English Composition I" class at your community college might map to an "Rhetoric and Composition" course at UT.

Note that while a course might successfully transfer, the applicability of that course to your degree plan is determined by your academic college. For instance, a course might transfer as a math course but may not fulfill a specific calculus requirement for a physics major.

Lastly, many community colleges in Texas have advising or transfer centers designed to help students plan their courses with future transfer in mind. These resources can be extremely helpful in ensuring you're set up for a smooth transfer experience.

Hope this helps and best of your luck in your academic journey!
