Best Online College Credits for Transfer?

I'm completing some online courses and want to ensure they can transfer to a traditional college later. Are there any specific online colleges known for good credit transferability?

When considering online courses for credit transfer, it's important to make sure the institution offering the course is regionally accredited, as these credits are more widely accepted by other colleges and universities. National accreditation can sometimes be more limited in terms of credit transferability.

Popular and widely recognized universities offering online courses include the University of Maryland Global Campus, Western Governors University, and Arizona State University. ASU, in particular, is known for its online program ASU Online, which has a wide range of courses that you can take at your own pace.

However, it's crucial that before you take any course with the intent to transfer, you should contact the registrar or admissions office at the institution you plan to transfer to to determine whether that specific course can be transferred. Each school has its transfer policies and may not accept every course from another institution.

Community colleges also often have agreements with 4-year institutions in the same state to easily transfer credits, so you might want to consider that avenue as well. Be aware that merely being regionally accredited doesn't guarantee credit transferability - always check with the institution you plan to transfer to.

Lastly, the American Council on Education's College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE Credit) has also evaluated and recommended college credit for certain online courses. It could be worth checking if your online course has an ACE recommendation. However, it's up to each school whether or not to accept these credits.
