What is the Jackson College MTA transfer agreement?

Can anyone explain what the MTA transfer agreement is at Jackson College? I'm considering enrolling there and want to understand how it affects transferring credits to other institutions.

The Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) was designed to facilitate the transfer of general education requirements from one institution to another within Michigan. Jackson College participates in this agreement, making it easier for students to transfer to other participating schools in the state.

The MTA requires students to successfully complete at least 30 credits in five defined areas with a grade of 2.0 or higher in each course. These five areas usually include courses in English Composition, Quantitative Reasoning, Natural Science, Social Science, and Humanities. Usually, you need at least one course in each area and an additional course in one of these. If you meet these requirements, you will have met the basic general education requirements at all participating Michigan institutions, saving you time and money when you transfer.

A key point is that while the MTA helps with the transfer of credits, it doesn't guarantee admission to the institution you wish to transfer to. You'll still need to meet the admissions requirements for your chosen institution and program. Be sure to discuss your transfer plans with an advisor at Jackson College to ensure you're taking the right courses for a smooth transfer.

Remember that while the MTA can be very useful, a direct transfer agreement between Jackson College and your target institution might serve your needs better. Many colleges have direct transfer agreements that guarantee admission and may transfer more credits than the MTA, or may better align courses with those required in your target major.
