Suggestions for community service for my college app?

I'm looking to beef up my college application with some meaningful community service. Any suggestions on what kind of volunteer work would stand out? I'd love to hear what activities or organizations worked best for you!

While I don't have personal experiences to share, there are plenty of ways for high school students to get involved in their local communities, and these activities can certainly make a positive impact on college applications.
