Does USC accept community college transfer credits?

I'm attending a community college right now and planning to transfer to USC. How do they handle transfer credits from community colleges? Do they have any special transfer agreements in place?

Yes, the University of Southern California (USC) accepts transfer credits from community colleges, and the university clearly outlines its respective transfer policy on its website. USC does a course-by-course evaluation of all transferable courses taken at regionally accredited institutions. You can also check USC's Articulation Agreement online which lists all courses at California Community Colleges that fulfill specific USC course requirements, which is updated annually.

However, it's important to bear in mind that only courses taken at the lower-division level (freshman and sophomore) are usually transferable to USC. Furthermore, while USC does not limit the number of overall units you can transfer, only a certain amount can be transferred from a community college. Courses beyond these initially transferred units can fulfill specific course requirements, but they will not increase your transferred unit total at USC.

Remember, admission into USC as a transfer student is quite competitive. The university looks at your college GPA, the rigor of your courses, your essays, as well as your involvement in extracurricular activities at the community college level. Successful transfer applicants usually have a GPA of 3.7 or higher, with several having completed at least one year of calculus for business students and one year of calculus and a semester or two of calculus-based physics for engineering majors.

If you have further queries about the transfer process or if your classes will meet specific major requirements, I would recommend reaching out to USC's Admission Center or the Transfer Admission Counselor for your school for personalized advice.
