Which colleges are transfer friendly?

I'm looking into transferring from my community college and want to make sure I choose a school that's welcoming to transfers. Can anyone recommend schools known for being transfer friendly?

Absolutely, there are a number of colleges that are known for being very accommodating towards transfer students.

For example, USC (University of Southern California) and Cornell University are known to be "transfer-friendly," as they both accept a significant number of transfer students each year.

The University of Texas at Austin also has a healthy transfer population, with a special pathway program called the Coordinated Admissions Program (CAP) that allows students from participating system schools to transfer into UT Austin after completing their freshman year.

If you would prefer a liberal arts environment, Amherst College is known for actively seeking out and supporting transfer students, particularly from community colleges.

Another often-overlooked option is the University of California (UC) schools. UC Berkeley, UC Davis, and UCLA, for instance, have transfer programs specifically for community college students. They prioritize local community college transfers in their admissions process and they have terrific resources for transfer students.

However, every school's requirements and processes are different, and transfer acceptance rates can vary greatly, so be sure to double-check each college’s specific requirements on its website.

Remember, what makes a school 'transfer-friendly' can depend on your own specific situation, such as your major, the classes you've already taken, and your future academic and career goals. It can be helpful to reach out to the admissions offices at the schools you're considering to learn more about their transfer policies, support services for transfer students, and whether your credits will transfer.

Good luck with your college search and the transfer process!
