Do credits transfer between community colleges?

I'm considering starting at one community college and finishing at another. Does anyone know if and how credits transfer between community colleges? Trying to plan ahead and make sure I won't lose any progress.

Absolutely, credits can be shifted between community colleges. However, some factors can influence the transferability of your credits.

Each community college has its own accord on whether or not they accept transferred credits, as well as what types. This can depend on the comparability of the curricula and specific courses, as well as the grade you received in the course (many schools require a C or better).

The primary step is to communicate with both institutions. Start by speaking with your current academic advisor to begin the process and understand what documentation (like transcripts) may be needed. Following that, contact the registrar or admissions office at the targeted community college. They can provide the necessary specifics on their credit acceptance policies and identify any potential obstacles.

Even better, if you can obtain a course catalog or syllabi from the first institution, it may be helpful to the advisor at the second institution to assist in their course equivalency determinations.

Finally, you'll want to make sure any special programs or agreements exist between the two community colleges that may simplify and assure the credit transfer process. Articulation Agreements are common among community colleges, which are partnerships that simplify the process and provide a predefined path for transferring specific credits or full degrees.

Remember, this advancing, and at times meticulous work can yield significant results in maintaining the progress you've made. This all being considered, it's definitely worth taking the time to properly coordinate. Good luck with your studies!
