Does UT Austin Accept College Credit Transfers?

I'm planning to transfer to UT Austin and I have some college credits from another institution. How does their credit transfer process work? Is there a limit to the number of credits they accept? Any advice would be appreciated!

UT Austin does accept college credit transfers, but it's subject to some conditions. The credits need to be from an accredited institution and the courses you've taken should be equivalent to those offered at UT Austin. It's also important to remember that a grade of at least C- must be earned for the course to be eligible for credit transfer.

The University has an Automated Transfer Equivalency system which allows you to search to see if coursework from your previous institution will transfer to UT Austin. This is not exhaustive though, and some courses may still transfer even if they're not listed in the system.

In terms of a limit, generally, you can transfer a maximum of 60 credit hours from a community college. If transferring from a 4-year university, there isn't a set limit on how many you can transfer, but you need to complete at least 60 credit hours at UT Austin to earn a degree from there.

In addition, keep in mind that not all of these transferred credits may apply towards your chosen major. Depending on the program, there are specific classes you'll have to take at UT Austin. Therefore, it's best to consult with an advisor to see how your credits will fit with your planned course of study. Be sure to have a plan just in case some credits aren't transferrable or applicable to your major.

Last but not least, submit your credit transfer application as early as possible. Credit evaluations can take time and you'll need the results to plan your course schedule at UT Austin. Good luck with your transfer application!
