Transferring from CSCC to a university: Which classes transfer?

I'm currently at Columbus State Community College and thinking about transferring to a four-year university. I'm interested in knowing which classes typically transfer, especially for a business major.

When it comes to transferring credit from a community college to a four-year university, it can largely depend on the specific university and its transfer policies. However, there are certain types of courses that typically transfer quite well.

General education courses (like introductory math, English, or social science courses) often transfer, since they are common requirements across universities. Courses that are part of accredited programs are also more likely to transfer. For your major in business, lower-level business courses such as Introduction to Business, Principles of Marketing, or Managerial Accounting might transfer as well.

It's also worth noting that some universities have agreements with local community colleges ensuring that certain credits will transfer, these are often referred to as articulation agreements or pathway programs.

However, to know for certain which of your credits will transfer, it's crucial that you reach out to the specific institutions you're interested in, since each one can have different policies. You can check each university's website for a "transfer equivalency guide" or similar resource, or reach out to the university’s admissions office or your academic advisor at CSCC for more help. They can assist you in understanding the transfer process and ensure the classes you are taking will be beneficial to your intended major. Remember that grades can play a part in credit transfer as well, so maintaining a good GPA can increase your chances of transferring more credits.
