Anyone transferred to a university with a political science degree from Pierce College?

I'm interested in pursuing an associate degree for transfer in political science at Pierce College. How has anyone else's experience been transferring to a university with this degree? Was the credit transfer process easy or complicated?

Respondent 1: I transferred from Pierce College with an associate's degree for transfer in political science to a UC, and my experience was pretty smooth. UC schools have a clear list of what classes at California community colleges, including Pierce College, will fulfill your general education requirements and major prerequisites at their school, thanks to Assist.org. By following this list during my time at Pierce, I was able to fully prepare myself for transferring to my chosen UC school.

There were a few bumps where I had to check in with my advisor and reach out to the admissions office at the UC just to clarify a few uncertainties about some specific courses, but overall it was not too complicated. Do keep in mind that the experience might vary depending on which university you are planning to transfer to. You should take advantage of your community college advisor's expertise and seek their guidance throughout this process. They know the nuances of the credit transfer process and can be a valuable resource.

Respondent 2: I too have successfully transferred from Pierce College to a 4-year university, in my case, into a private institution. The process was relatively straightforward for me as Pierce College had an agreement with the university I was interested in. These so called "articulation agreements" make it clear what classes will transfer over and satisfy particular degree requirements.

However, some universities may give you a hard time regarding certain courses, or may not accept some at all, so it's crucial to look into this as soon as possible. It might save you from taking classes that won't ultimately count towards your degree at your transfer institution. Be proactive in working with both your academic advisor at Pierce and the admissions office at the university to which you plan to transfer. They will be indispensable in helping you make your transition as smooth as possible.

Respondent 3: I transferred to a CSU school, and it was a generally smooth transition. Thanks to the “Associate Degree for Transfer” (ADT) program between the California Community Colleges and the CSU system, I was given a guaranteed admission into a CSU. It's specially designed to streamline the process and it guarantees that no more than 60 semester units remaining will be needed to complete a bachelor’s degree.

However, not every course I took at Pierce was transferrable so I recommend meeting regularly with your counselor and utilizing assist.org to ensure the classes you’re planning to take are transferrable to the 4-year university you have your eyes on. Good luck!
