What's the process to transfer from American River College to UC Davis?

I'm interested in transferring to UC Davis from American River College. Can someone guide me on the GPA requirements and application process? Any tips from those who've done this transfer would be greatly appreciated!

As a transfer student from a California Community College, your process will follow the standard pattern facilitated by the University of California's Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) for six of its campuses, including UC Davis.

Here's a brief rundown of the steps:

1. Review Transfer Admission Requirements: Before starting the transfer process, you must ensure you meet UC Davis's transfer admission requirements. You need to have at least a 2.8 GPA as an out-of-state student, and a 2.4 GPA as an in-state student to be eligible to apply. However, different majors have different GPA requirements, and some are quite competitive. If you are aiming for a high demand major such as Computer Science or Engineering, you would typically need a much higher GPA, usually above 3.5.

2. Course Requirements: You must complete 60 semester or 90 quarter units of UC transferable coursework, with a GPA of 2.4 (or 2.8) or higher, and at least seven of the General Education (GE) courses must be completed prior to transferring.

3. TAG Application: Submit your TAG application between September 1 and 30. This guarantees admission to UC Davis provided you meet the TAG requirements specific to your desired major.

4. UC Application: You’ll also fill out the UC application, in which you will list your grades, extracurricular involvements, and write four personal insight essays. The application opens on August 1 and must be submitted between November 1-30.

While your major coursework is essential, UC Davis also considers your all academic coursework and your extra- and co-curricular involvements. They are looking to see you demonstrate leadership, persistence, service to others, and improvement over time, so make sure to list and explain all relevant involvements in your application!

Lastly, make use of support offered by both your current school and UC Davis. American River College likely has numerous resources for transfer students, and Davis has a Transfer, Reentry, and Veteran Services Center that can provide additional information about housing, financial aid, and orientation. Transferring can be a complex process, but with some organization and attention to detail, it's entirely manageable! Best of luck!
