Transferring to App State Honors College?

I'm looking at transferring to Appalachian State's Honors College and would love some advice. What should I expect in terms of application requirements and acceptance rates?

Being interested in transferring to an Honors College is a significant step in your academic journey, and Appalachian State University's Honors College is undoubtedly a renowned choice.

The general transfer requirements to Appalachian State University involve having completed or be in the process of completing 24 transferable credit hours from an accredited institution, along with having a minimum college GPA of 2.25.

Specifically, for the Honors College, you'll be asked to provide a high school GPA of 3.45 or higher (if fewer than 30 credit hours have been completed), the Honors Application (which now includes a required resume and two short essays), and submission of two letters of recommendation, with at least one from a current or former college professor. Similarly, if more than 30 hours have been completed, the high school GPA requirement is waived.

As for acceptance rates, Appalachian State University itself has a transfer acceptance rate of around 87%. However, the Honors College is more selective. While exact acceptance rates aren't publicly available, keep in mind that Honors Colleges generally look for students who demonstrate high academic achievement and motivation.

Also, transferees must maintain a minimum GPA (usually around 3.45 or higher) once accepted. They should also be prepared for a more rigorous academic experience, as honors programs typically involve enriched and intensive classes, undergraduate research, or writing a thesis.

Remember that successfully transferring and getting accepted into an Honors College depends not only on meeting minimum requirements, but also on how well you can convey your commitment, passion, and suitability through your application materials. So, go the extra mile with your essays and recommendation letters. Good luck!
