International Student Transfer Process at Austin Community College

I'm an international student currently studying in the U.S. and thinking about transferring to Austin Community College. Does anyone know what the specific transfer requirements are for F-1 students?

International students considering a transfer to Austin Community College (ACC) must follow a multi-step process, including specific F-1 visa protocols.

First, one basic requirement is you must be in good academic and immigration status at your current U.S. institution.

Once that's established, you should apply to ACC as a transfer student and fulfill all their admission requirements for international students. This includes providing your high school transcript, proof of English language proficiency, financial certification, and copies of your passport and visa documents.

At the same time, you should notify your current school's designated school official (DSO) that you wish to transfer to ACC. They will need to release your records in the SEVIS system, which will authorize ACC to issue a new Form I-20 to you.

After your acceptance, your SEVIS record will be transferred to ACC on your determined transfer release date, after which, ACC will issue your new Form I-20. Notably, the new Form I-20 should be collected within 15 days of the start of your semester at ACC.

Finally, you must check in at the ACC's International Student Office with all relevant documentation, including your new Form I-20, to validate your F-1 status.

Always make sure to consult with your current institution's international student services office before initiating the transfer process, as they may be able to provide tailored guidance on this procedure.

Keep in mind that ACC also offers resources like counseling and tutoring to help students acclimate and succeed academically. Even after your transfer, these resources could be beneficial to your student experience. Good luck with your transfer process!
