Understanding Valencia College transfer class credits

I'm planning on transferring to Valencia College and I'm curious about how my existing credits will transfer. Does anyone know how this process works or what I should prepare for?

Applying as a transfer student to Valencia College involves a few key steps to ensure that your existing credits are appropriately evaluated.

1. Application: Firstly, you'll need to apply to Valencia College as a degree-seeking student. You can do this through their online application portal. Make sure to indicate that you're a transfer student.

2. Transcripts: After you've submitted your application, the next step is to have your official transcripts from your previous institution(s) sent to Valencia's Registrar's Office. The transcripts should be sent directly from your previous school(s). If you earned college credit in high school (like dual enrollment or AP credits), those transcripts should be sent as well.

3. Evaluation: Once your transcripts arrive, the school will conduct a transcript evaluation which determines how your credits will transfer. They compare the classes you've taken at your previous institution with the ones offered at Valencia to see if they are equivalent or similar in course content.

4. Course Substitution: If there’s a course you’ve taken that doesn't exactly match a requirement but is similar or relevant, you might consider submitting a Course Substitution Form, which would allow a course to satisfy the requirements of another.

Finally, it's important to connect with an academic advisor who can help answer your questions about how your transferred credits will affect your academic track at Valencia College.

Please keep in mind that the overall process takes time, so it's best to get started as soon as you can. Remember too that only courses with a grade of C or better will typically transfer, but some programs may require a higher grade for certain classes.
