Community college transfer to ASU: What's the process?

If I start at a community college in Arizona, what should I know about transferring to Arizona State University? Are there specific programs or agreements that make this transition smoother?

Certainly, transitioning from a community college to a four-year university like Arizona State University (ASU) can be a smooth process, provided you plan it out well. Arizona has a unique Transfer Articulation system, known as AzTransfer, which is designed to assist students transitioning from Arizona community colleges to universities within the state.

ASU also has a specific transfer program called "MyPath2ASU™" to help streamline the transfer process. It enables you to select from over 400 pathways into an ASU degree and provides a set of course options for your community college experience that will set you up for success at ASU.

You'll start by identifying your intended major at ASU and then select the community college you're attending. With the tool, you can see exactly which courses to take for your intended major, reducing the chances of taking classes that won't apply to your degree.

In addition, ASU has several other tools and resources for transfer students, such as transfer guides and course equivalency tables to help you figure out which of your community college credits will transfer to ASU.

Keep in mind, ASU looks for at least a cumulative GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) in all transferable coursework, and you'll need at least 24 transferable semester credits completed.

Remember to consult with both your community college advisor and folks in ASU's admissions department throughout the process—open communication will help make your transition as smooth as possible.
