ASU college credit transfer process?

I'm planning to transfer to Arizona State University and want to understand how the college credit transfer process works. Are there specific credits that typically don't transfer? Would love any insights or tips from those who've been through it!

Arizona State University (ASU) has a relatively smooth credit transfer process. How credits transfer to ASU often depends on the type of institution you're transferring from (such as community college, four-year college, international school, etc.)

To start off, you should know that ASU accepts transfer credit for traditional coursework you've taken at regionally accredited institutions. For your credits to transfer, you typically need to have earned a grade of C or better in each course.

That being said, there are two areas to be aware of where credits might not transfer:

1. Remedial courses: Remedial courses will not transfer to ASU. These are typically non-credit courses designed to bring a student up to the college level.

2. Technical or vocational credits: ASU may not accept output-based or competency-based credits from vocational, technical, or career programs. However, there can be exceptions particularly if you're going into a related field of study.

One concrete step you can take to check how your credits might transfer to ASU is to use their Transfer Credit Guide. It's an online tool provided by ASU where you can choose your current institution and see which specific courses have been transferred before and how they've counted at ASU.

When you submit your application to transfer to ASU, you'll also need to send your official transcripts from your current institution. After you are admitted, ASU will perform an official evaluation of your transfer credits and will provide you with an official Transfer Credit Report (TCR).

Bear in mind that while the Transfer Credit Report shows how your credits have been evaluated by ASU, it's a good idea to discuss course equivalencies and how these credits fit into your intended degree program during your advising appointment.

Remember that each major and college within ASU might have specific prerequisites or course requirements so you'll want to become familiar with those as well, to understand how your individual credits will apply to your intended degree.

As with any transfer situation, it is always good to consult with an advisor both at your current institution and at ASU to ensure a smooth transition and to take full advantage of the credits you've already earned.

Good luck with your transfer process!
