How do transfer credits work at Bard College?

I'm planning to transfer to Bard College and I'm curious about how my current credits will transfer over. Does anyone know how Bard handles transfer credits and what I need to do to get them evaluated?

Transfer credits at Bard College work in a fairly straightforward manner. Once you're admitted as a transfer student, Bard's Registrar’s Office will review your transcript from your previous institution and determine how many credits can be transferred.

It's important to note that Bard generally accepts credits for courses in which you’ve earned a C or better, and that are similar in content and depth to classes taught at Bard. Courses not similar to those offered at Bard, such as vocational, technical, or personal development courses, are generally not accepted for transfer credit.

In terms of getting your credits evaluated, begin by having your official transcripts from your previous institution sent to Bard's Admissions Office. After your acceptance, the Registrar’s Office will perform the credit evaluation. Remember that the final decisions on credit transfers are made by Bard, not by the student or the institution previously attended.

In terms of graduation requirements, transfer students have to earn a minimum of 64 credits (out of the 128 required for a Bard degree) at Bard and spend at least four semesters at the college. How many of your credits transfer and how they'll apply to your Bard degree will help you understand how much longer you'll need to study to complete your degree requirements.

It's a good idea to reach out to Bard's Registrar’s Office or the Transfer Coordinator in the Admission Office with more specific questions about your situation. You can also consult the college catalog or website for detailed information on the academic programs and course offerings, so you already have an idea of how your previous courses may fit in.
