What's the deal with Bates College transfer credit policies?

I'm thinking about transferring to Bates College and I'm particularly curious about their credit transfer policies. How does it work, especially for economics classes? Any insights from people who've been through this process would be awesome!

Bates College has a fairly straightforward policy for transferring credits, but it does depend on what classes you've previously taken and whether they align with the Bates curriculum.

For Economics, you would typically need to have taken similar courses at your previous institution to what Bates offers in its Economics program. You may want to compile a list of the Economics courses you've taken, their descriptions, and any syllabi if you have them handy.

Once you transfer, Bates College will conduct an evaluation of your transcript. Each course is reviewed individually to determine whether it correlates with their curriculum and standards. This might mean that not all of your previously earned credits will be eligible for transfer.

Important to note is the College's rule that at least two-thirds of your coursework needs to be completed at Bates in order to graduate. However, depending on your situation, exceptions to the two-thirds rule can sometimes be granted.

If you're accepted as a transfer, it's a good idea to get in touch with the Registrar's Office or the Economics Department directly. They'll be able to provide you with a clearer picture of how your credits will transfer and what your academic schedule might look like once you're enrolled at Bates.

Remember, it always helps to keep detailed records and be proactive about understanding what can/cannot be transferred to maximize the credits you can bring over. Good luck with your transfer process!
