What's the Barnard College transfer housing situation like?

In thinking about transferring to Barnard College, I'm curious about the housing options for transfers. Are dorms guaranteed or should I start looking into other options just in case? Any advice would be great!

Barnard College provides housing for transfer students, but the availability can sometimes be limited. As a result, while many transfer students receive housing, it's not necessarily guaranteed for each student. This is due in part to the limited space within Barnard's residence halls and the high demand from incoming students.

Your specific housing assignment can range from a single to a shared room in a suite or corridor-style arrangement. Spaces are usually in Plimpton or Sulzberger Halls, which house many upperclassmen as well as other transfer students.

If you've received a transfer offer, you should wait for your housing notification, which typically follows the admissions decision by a few weeks, to know whether you've secured campus housing. After that, should you not get a housing offer or you prefer off-campus housing, you can then consider moving forward with exploring other options in the surrounding Morningside Heights community and beyond.

In the meantime, it can be helpful to research about local neighborhoods, average rent prices, and tenant rights in New York City to better prepare yourself for such a scenario. Even if you end up getting campus housing, this will still be helpful knowledge for future years.

Remember to stay in close contact with Barnard's Residential Life and Housing office. They're there to help you navigate this transition, whether that's answering questions about on-campus housing or providing resources for finding off-campus alternatives. They should be your main point of contact for any specific queries about your personal situation.
