What's the procedure for CUNY math placement for Baruch College transfer students?

As a potential transfer student, I'm trying to understand how the CUNY math placement works at Baruch College. Are there any specific steps or tests I'll need to complete?

For transfer students coming into Baruch College, the CUNY math placement test may not be required if you are transferring from another CUNY college and you've already completed the Math requirement there.

If you're transferring from a non-CUNY college, your transcripts will be reviewed at the time of your application to determine your appropriate math placement. If your prior coursework does not clearly demonstrate that you are prepared for college-level mathematics, you will potentially be required to take the CUNY Assessment Test in Mathematics.

As of Fall 2020, the test consists of multiple-choice questions covering the following five fields: numeric operations and reasoning, algebraic operations, data interpretation with graphs and tables, solutions of equations and inequalities, and coordinate geometry.

The Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics (QRAS) section is used to determine whether students are in need of remediation and what level of math courses they are initially eligible to take. If you meet the appropriate score threshold for QRAS, you are deemed college-ready in math, and you will be able to enroll in any Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics class.

Scoring well on this test is essential to enrolling in higher-level math courses at Baruch. To ensure you perform well, it is advisable to prepare for the test. CUNY provides a variety of resources on its website, including sample problems and a practice test. Furthermore, studying from algebra and statistics textbooks and practicing problems would be highly beneficial.

Remember every university has its own policies regarding placement tests and transfer credits, so please make sure to confirm the details with Baruch's Admissions Office or your academic advisor.
