How does the Brooklyn College transfer process work for students?

I'm considering becoming a transfer student at Brooklyn College. Could anyone share their experience with the application process? I'm curious about what to expect and any tips to make it less stressful.

Transferring to a new institution can indeed be a big step, but with proper preparation, it doesn't have to be stressful. Brooklyn College is part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system, thus their transfer process should align with standard CUNY procedures.

To begin, applicants should gather all necessary documents including your high school and college transcripts. As a transfer student, Brooklyn College will take into account both your college and high school grades. They'll also look at your SAT or ACT scores if you have fewer than 24 credits by the time of application.

Next, the completion of the online transfer application on the CUNY application portal is required. The application includes providing your academic history, entering all the courses you've taken, and may entail a writing component, depending on whether you're applying to certain selective programs.

Please note that it's key to highlight any relevant work or life experiences in your application that could potentially enhance your candidacy. Unlike high school applicants, as a transfer student you likely have a more established academic and professional profile, so use this to your advantage.

Remember to keep track of deadlines. For Brooklyn College, the fall priority deadline is typically February 1, and the spring priority deadline is typically September 15.

Once you have submitted all the application materials, then it's a waiting game for a decision. Decisions are often available online through CUNYfirst.

Once admitted, you would need to get your credits evaluated. College credits earned from regionally accredited institutions will generally be accepted. However, courses that are vocational, remedial, or technical in nature may not be accepted. Brooklyn College has a Transfer Evaluation Department that could assist in this process.

Keep in mind that the whole process can take some time, so the earlier you start the better. Good luck with your journey!
