Experience with UCF transfer from Broward College

Is there anyone here who transferred from Broward College to the University of Central Florida? I'm curious about the transfer experience and any challenges I should be aware of as I plan my move.

Transferring from a community college like Broward to a 4-year institution such as UCF is a common path for many students.

One of the main obstacles you might encounter is meeting the prerequisites for your intended major at UCF. It would be beneficial for you to understand the course requirements for your intended major at UCF and ensure that the courses taken at Broward fulfill those requirements. This way, you won't have to retake courses or spend extra time completing requirements after transferring.

Another challenge might be the transition to a larger school. The campus size, student population, and resources at UCF are quite different from Broward. It may take some time to adjust and navigate the resources at your disposal. For example, there may be larger classes, more research opportunities, a greater variety of clubs and organizations, and a different academic expectation.

Credit evaluation might be a hurdle too. While Florida has an articulation agreement ensuring that an Associate in Arts (AA) degree fulfills general education requirements, not all credits might be accepted directly toward your major. Therefore, it's crucial to connect with a transfer advisor or counselor at both Broward and UCF to facilitate a seamless transition of your credits.

It's also worth mentioning the social aspect. UCF has a diverse student body, numerous student organizations, and a spirited Greek life. Therefore, integrating into the social scene at UCF might be very different than at Broward College.

Lastly, for financial considerations, ensure you understand how your financial aid or scholarships might alter when transitioning from a community college to a 4-year university.

Despite these potential challenges, remember that many students successfully make this transition every year. Take advantage of resources at both Broward and UCF such as counseling services, academic advising, and student clubs to make your transfer experience as smooth as possible.
