Total number of NCAA schools?

I'm a student athlete interested in playing sports at the collegiate level, so I'm hoping to apply to some NCAA schools. About how many are there altogether? This would really help me understand the scope of my options!

There are currently around 1,100 NCAA member institutions across the United States, divided into three divisions – Division I, Division II, and Division III. Each division has its own set of rules and requirements, as well as varying levels of athletic competition and scholarship opportunities.

Division I is the highest level of competition and typically offers more athletic scholarships, while Division III focuses more on the overall student-athlete experience and does not provide athletic scholarships. Division II falls somewhere in between. It's important to research each potential school's athletic programs, academics, and campus culture to find the best fit for you.

Keep in mind that NCAA is not the only option for playing sports in college. There are also schools that are part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), which offer additional opportunities to participate in college athletics. Good luck with your college search and sports career!
