I'm hoping to eventually transfer from Cabrillo College to a UC or CSU. Does anyone have experience with their Transfer Admission Agreements or know how they can help with a smooth transfer to a four-year school?
Cabrillo College offers something called a Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG), which is designed to help students navigate a seamless transfer process to 6 participating UC colleges. The students pursuing a TAG need to fulfill certain academic requirements, like maintaining a specific GPA and completing particular course requirements.
TAGs are typically offered by six UC campuses, namely UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Merced, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Santa Cruz. With a TAG, once you complete the specific program requirements, you'll be guaranteed admission into one of these UC campuses, often within a certain major.
TAGs require you to complete a certain number of course credits and maintain a specified GPA. However, these agreements often require planning early in your time at Cabrillo, since some must be completed or initiated as early as the fall semester one year prior to the transfer.
Also note that agreement processes are often accompanied by counseling or advising services which are extremely beneficial. You'll be given a detailed roadmap of what courses to take and what grades to achieve, ensuring you remain on track throughout your time at Cabrillo.
Remember, the TAG needs to be part of your overall transfer plan, which also includes other components, such as preparing a competitive application, completing required and recommended coursework, maintaining a competitive GPA, and in some cases, applying for financial aid.
