Transferring to Merrimack College: What should I know?

I'm planning to transfer to Merrimack College and need some advice. What should I be aware of in terms of deadlines, requirements, or credits?

When it comes to transferring to Merrimack College, there are a few key points you'll want to keep in mind.

Deadlines: For the Fall semester, the application period for transfers is March 16–August 15. For the Spring semester, the period is November 16–January 6.

Requirements: Merrimack requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 from your previous college work. You'll need to submit your college transcript(s), a final high school transcript or GED, and a College Report (showing you're in good standing at your current institution). Also required are a midterm grade report, a personal statement, and SAT/ACT scores if available (though these are not required).

Credits: Merrimack generally accepts credits from regionally accredited colleges and universities for courses in which you've earned a grade of C- or better. However, the college has the discretion to determine if the course content meets its criteria and standards. It would be helpful to have some conversations with an admissions counselor or advisor to confirm how your credits will transfer.

One way to do this is by signing up for Merrimack's Transfer Talks: https://admission.merrimack.edu/portal/transfer. These are 30 minute one-on-ones with admissions officers, who will be able to introduce you to Merrimack's transfer offerings, and help you understand what your transfer process will look like. Though they aren't guaranteed, Merrimack admissions officers do sometimes make on-the-spot admissions decisions in these meetings, so it could definitely streamline your process to sign up for one.

Keep in mind that Merrimack College emphasizes the importance of demonstrating good academic standing and having a well-rounded academic background. Be sure to explain any discrepancies or gaps in your academic record in your personal statement.

Lastly, don't forget to research specific requirements for your intended major. Depending on the program, there may be additional prerequisites or requirements. Best of luck with your transfer process!
