Transferring Florida Prepaid to a different college?

I'm using the Florida Prepaid plan for tuition, but I'm thinking of changing colleges. Can I transfer my prepaid plan to a new school, and if so, how does that work? Any tips would be great!

The Florida Prepaid Plan is indeed transferrable to other colleges or universities, both in-state and out-of-state. However, the amount transferred will reflect the tuition rate of public in-state colleges, which is what the plan is based on.

To go about transferring your Florida Prepaid Plan, you'll need to adjust your tuition payment setup with your new institution. The procedure will vary somewhat between schools, but in general, you will need to contact both your new school and the Florida Prepaid College Board to inform them of the change. Your new school's Financial Aid office should be able to help you navigate this process as it pertains to their institution.

One thing to bear in mind: the Florida Prepaid Plan specifically covers tuition and mandatory fees required by all students, but it may not cover certain specific fees or differential tuition unique to the institution or the program you're entering.

Lastly, while the Florida Prepaid Plan can be used in combination with scholarships and financial aid, keep in mind that your scholarship and financial aid package might change as a result of the transfer. It's essential to get an understanding of how these dynamics will play out, to ensure that your financial planning remains sound. If you haven’t done so already, reassessing your financial aid eligibility with your new school's financial aid office can be a useful next step.
