Can you join the IHSA team after transferring colleges?

I'm considering transferring colleges and really want to continue riding for the IHSA team. Has anyone else done this, and do most colleges have an easy process to join their IHSA team as a transfer?

Absolutely, you can definitely join a college's IHSA riding team as a transfer student! Each college may have slightly different procedures, but the typical process involves expressing your interest in joining the IHSA team, going through tryouts, and possibly even speaking to the coach. It's important to note that you'll need to be a full-time student at the college to be eligible to participate in IHSA competitions.

Many IHSA teams are inclusive and have positions for riders of all experience levels, from those who have never ridden before to experienced competitors. So assuming you have previous riding experience, you'd likely fit right in.

As part of your transfer process, it could be beneficial to reach out to the college's equestrian team coach or captain to express your interest and inquire about the requirements to join the team. This way, you would have first-hand information on the process at that particular institution. Be upfront about your experiences and skill level, and don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have.

Remember that generosity of spirit, a positive attitude, and hard work is often as important as riding skills when it comes to team dynamics and contributing to a positive team culture – these can make you a valuable addition to any team, at any college. Good luck with your transfer and your continuous riding journey!
