Transferring AP credits to community college?

I'm thinking of enrolling in a community college and curious if I can transfer my AP credits there. Do community colleges generally accept them, and if so, does it apply to all subjects? Any advice on this process would be helpful!

While each community college has its own policies, it's quite common that they do accept AP scores for course credit just like four-year institutions. The required score to get credit, and the amount of credit awarded can vary based on the school and the subject of the exam. Generally, you'll need to have scores of 3 or above, but some colleges or courses may require a 4 or a 5.

To find out the specific policy of the college you're interested in, the best route is to contact the admissions or registrar's office directly. You could also look on their website, as some schools have a transfer equivalency table providing detailed information on how AP scores translate to college credits.

To officially transfer your AP scores, you'll need to request that the College Board sends an official score report to the college. This can be done either when you take the exam or afterwards through your College Board account.

Just a heads-up, not every AP course/examination may align perfectly with the curricula at the community college. For this reason, some AP credits may not exempt you from certain courses. In most cases, though, AP credits will at least count towards general education or elective requirements. This can save you time and money as you work towards your associate's degree.
