Transferring from Florida Prepaid College?

Does anyone know how transferring works with the Florida Prepaid College Program? I'm planning to change schools and want to make sure I can still use it without any issues. Any experiences or advice on handling prepaid plans during transfers?

Absolutely! The Florida Prepaid College Program is designed with flexibility in mind, and that includes the capacity to transfer your benefits if you decide to attend a different institution. If you're transferring to another public university within Florida, you should face no issues—I've known students who've done this smoothly.

However, if your new institution is a private or out-of-state one, it gets slightly more complicated. Generally, Florida Prepaid pays the amount it would cost at an in-state public college to the college you're attending, and then you're responsible for the rest. You should confirm the details with the Bursar's or Financial Aid office at your new institution to see how Florida Prepaid will apply.

Every school interprets Florida Prepaid somewhat differently. Therefore, it’s best to contact your new school directly to understand your personal situation, as they can also shed some light on how many credits will transfer over. Be sure to have your social security number on hand, as well as your Florida Prepaid account number when you call.

Remember to keep your Florida Prepaid account updated with your new institution’s details as soon as possible to prevent any potential mix-ups and ensure that the payments are made to the correct school. Good luck with your transfer!
