Can you transfer GPA from community college to university?

I'm curious about transferring from community college to a university. Do GPAs from community college transfer over, or do universities recalculate your GPA? Just trying to figure out how my grades will carry over.

When you transfer from a community college to a four-year university, your community college GPA doesn't technically "transfer." Your GPA doesn't restart from scratch, but your university will begin a new GPA for you, based on the courses you take there. However, your community college GPA is not erased or meaningless in this process.

The courses you took and the grades you earned at your community college will still be there, on your official transcript, and they will be taken into account as part of your total academic performance. When you apply for graduate school or a job after university, these places often ask for all college transcripts, so they'll look at those grades from community college in making their decisions.

Moreover, when determining your eligibility for admission, universities will consider your community college GPA and the rigor of the courses you've taken. A strong GPA can be an important factor in making a successful transition, especially if you're transferring to a selective university.

On an additional note, remember that some colleges and universities have articulation agreements with local community colleges, which often provide a path for a smooth transfer, guaranteeing that certain credits will transfer and can be used toward degree requirements at the new institution. These universities typically honor community college GPAs in their admissions processes. You should visit the schools' respective websites or connect with an admissions representative to get more accurate information in terms of your specific situation.
