Can you transfer to Princeton from community college?

I'm currently attending a community college and I'm really interested in transferring to Princeton. I'm just curious about whether it's possible and what the process might be like. Does anyone know if Princeton accepts community college transfers?

Princeton University has a somewhat unique transfer policy compared to other Ivy League universities. After nearly 30 years of accepting no transfer students, Princeton reinstated its transfer program in 2018. This program is designed particularly to attract students from low-income families, the military, and community colleges.

To be eligible to transfer, you need to have completed at least a year of coursework elsewhere. For the actual transfer process, you would need to submit an application which includes academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, essays, and standardized test scores if you choose to submit them (Princeton is currently test-optional). Keep in mind that Princeton is one of the most selective schools in the country, and the transfer acceptance rate is generally lower than the acceptance rate for first-year applicants.

Regarding your concern about being a community college student, Princeton has explicitly stated that they are interested in admitting students from various backgrounds and that includes community college students. However, just like every application, they would look at your academic achievements, extracurricular involvement, and the impact you've made in your community or school. Demonstrating a high level of drive, distinct passions, and a strong record of academic performance would be essential.

Lastly, it's worth noting that every credit earned at your community college won't necessarily count towards your degree at Princeton. The school will consider the appropriateness of each course for Princeton's curriculum, and only then decide to accept the course or not. Be prepared to potentially spend more than two years studying at Princeton to complete your bachelor's degree.

It's always a good idea to reach out to the school's admissions office directly if you have more specific questions about the transfer process.
