Applying for PA program as a Canisius College transfer?

I'm interested in the PA program at Canisius College and I'm planning to transfer. Is there anything specific I should know about the transfer process into the PA program there?

Canisius College offers a Combined BS/MSPAS Program in Physician Assistant Studies. This is a five-year, full-time program, not a standalone graduate program. Therefore, you'd first need to apply to Canisius College as an undergraduate transfer student and make sure that you're meeting their transfer admission standards.

Next, you'll need to consider the program's curricular prerequisites. For instance, you'll need a high school diploma or the equivalent, and a combination of high school and college courses in physical and biological sciences. Other requirements include statistics, psychology, and medical terminology. Any equivalent transfer credits should ideally fulfill these prerequisites.

Note that the Bachelor's portion of the combined program is not offered as a stand-alone degree program and is closely integrated with the Master's level Physician Assistant coursework. It is expected to be completed sequentially over five years. You will need to speak directly to the admissions office at Canisius College and the PA Department to see how transfer credits might apply in this unique situation.

It's also important to note that admission into the PA program is competitive and consideration is not automatic upon admission to Canisius College. You'd need to meet both the academic and clinical work experience prerequisites as well.

As a further step, I'd strongly recommend reaching out directly to the PA program at Canisius to see what accommodations they make for transfer students. They'll have the most accurate and up-to-date information to guide you through the process.
