General Education Transfer from Citrus College

Does anyone know how general education credits from Citrus College transfer to other institutions, like a CSU? I'm trying to figure out if I've got all the right courses covered before submitting my transfer application.

Sure, I can help with this! When transferring from a California community college to a CSU like Citrus College, what you need is to complete the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum, also known as the IGETC. Completing the IGETC will satisfy the lower-division general education requirements at any CSU.

Citrus College, as with all California community colleges, should have an IGETC list of which of their courses count for each IGETC area. You can check this list against the courses you've taken to make sure you covered all the necessary areas.

If any of your taken courses don't show up there, you might still be able to get them to count. In this case, you’ll need to check with your academic counselor to see how they can help you determine course equivalencies.

Remember, the IGETC isn't always the best choice for all students planning to transfer. Certain majors or colleges may advise against it and have their own sets of requirements, recommending instead that students complete the CSU general education pattern. It's important to confirm all these details with the counselor at the CSU you plan to transfer to.

Note that besides the general education requirements, different schools may have different courses required for admission for the specific major you are interested in, so make sure you check those as well.

Hope this helps, and best of luck with your transfer application!
