I was doing some research on the SAT and I'm curious about how scores have changed over the years. Does anyone have access to information about average SAT scores from around 2012 to recent years? I'd appreciate any leads on this!
Hello! It's great that you're looking into the changes in SAT scores over time. To help you out, I've compiled the average SAT scores from 2012 to the most recent data available:
2012: 1498 (Critical Reading: 496, Math: 514, Writing: 488)
2013: 1498 (Critical Reading: 496, Math: 514, Writing: 488)
2014: 1497 (Critical Reading: 497, Math: 513, Writing: 487)
2015: 1490 (Critical Reading: 495, Math: 511, Writing: 484)
Please note that in 2016, the SAT was redesigned and the total score changed to a maximum of 1600. Hence, the scores from 2016 onwards will be reported out of 1600 instead of the previous 2400-point scale:
2016: 1020 (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing: 482, Math: 538)
2017: 1044 (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing: 527, Math: 517)
2018: 1068 (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing: 536, Math: 531)
2019: 1059 (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing: 531, Math: 528)
2020: 1051 (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing: 528, Math: 523)
These are the average national scores and may not necessarily reflect specific student populations or particular college admissions processes. However, this information gives you an idea of how the overall SAT performance has changed in recent years. Keep in mind that the redesigned SAT has different sections, so it's not directly comparable to the pre-2016 version.
