Transferring Pell Grant to another college

I'm considering switching schools and want to know if I can bring my Pell Grant with me. How does the process of transferring financial aid, like the Pell Grant, to a different college work?

Absolutely, Pell Grants are federal aid and can be transported between different colleges, assuming you're still eligible for the grant. However, there are a few steps you'll need to take.

1. Update the FAFSA: Notify the federal student aid office about your school change by updating your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You need to list your new school on your FAFSA so they can access your information. You can do this by logging in online and, under "School Selection," add your new school's federal school code.

2. Notify your New School: When you've chosen your new school and are accepted, notify their financial aid office that you've been receiving a Pell Grant. They'll be able to tell you how much grant funding you have left for the academic year.

However, keep in mind that the amount you receive may change because each school has a different cost of attendance (COA). If your new school’s COA is higher, you could receive more grant money, but if the COA is lower, your Pell Grant amount could decrease.

Also, remember that each school has their own deadlines for the FAFSA. Check on that to make sure you complete everything in time.
