What GPA do I need to transfer to UC Berkeley's civil engineering program?

I'm currently at a community college and planning to apply for a transfer to Berkeley for civil engineering. I'm trying to figure out what GPA I should aim for to have a good shot at getting accepted. Any advice?

In general, transfer admissions to University of California, Berkeley, and specifically to the more competitive programs like Civil Engineering, is quite selective. While a specific GPA isn't listed as a requirement on their admissions page, the average GPA of admitted transfer students at Berkeley is typically around a 3.9. However, UC Berkeley looks at more than just GPA – course selection and evidence of leadership and involvement in extracurricular activities, such as work, volunteering, or research, also matter.

For the Civil Engineering program, you would have to complete the prerequisite courses with high grades. According to information obtained through the Assist.org website, for Civil Engineering at UC Berkeley, the following courses must be completed or in progress by the spring semester prior to fall enrollment:

- One year of General Chemistry with lab

- One year of Calculus

- One year of Physics

- One course in Data Analysis

Keep in mind that admission to Berkeley is extremely competitive, so strive to do as well as possible in these and all other relevant courses, as well as showcasing other aspects of your application.

Lastly, I recommend that you visit Berkeley’s Transfer Student Center or connect with them online. They provide services to assist students throughout the transfer process and can provide you with the most definitive guidance on transferring to Berkeley’s Civil Engineering program.
