Do classes from Bellevue College transfer well?

I'm at Bellevue College and considering transferring in the future. Any recommendations on which classes I should take to ensure they transfer smoothly to a university?

Generally, the courses that transfer well from community colleges like Bellevue to four-year institutions are those that are a part of the general education requirements. While it may seem overwhelming to think about all of the classes you should take, it's helpful to start off with courses in fields such as English, Mathematics, Natural and Social Sciences, the Humanities, and the Arts, but always verify the classes are transferable to your potential universities.

However, it's important to note that each university has its specific policies regarding transfer credits. Therefore, my first strong suggestion is to identify your target universities and research their credit transfer policies. Some universities have credit transfer tools available online, where you can compare your Bellevue courses to the equivalent courses offered at the four-year institution.

Next, reach out to your academic advisor at Bellevue College. They can guide you on how to optimize your course selections for transfer, based on the degree program you're aiming for.

Lastly, Bellevue College offers Direct Transfer Agreements (DTA), also known as Associate of Arts and Sciences (AAS-DTA). This allows students to fulfill the general university requirements of most four-year institutions in Washington state. If you earn this degree, you will have junior standing for most majors when you transfer. This would ease the entire process and ensure seamless credit transfer.

Keeping these considerations in mind, your class choices can be more strategic and will more than likely transfer smoothly to a university.
