Transfer process for the College of New Jersey Nursing Program

I'm looking to transfer into the nursing program at the College of New Jersey. Can anyone provide details on what the transfer process is like and any specific requirements they have for nursing students?

The transfer process at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) for the Nursing program is quite thorough but straightforward. It considers many aspects of your previous academic performance and experience before granting you a place.

Firstly, TCNJ has minimum academic requirement standards that transfer students need to meet. Namely, a cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required, however, for competitive programs like nursing, you'll ideally want a GPA higher than that. The nursing program, in particular, is very competitive and often requires a higher GPA for consideration.

Next, TCNJ requires that you've completed some college-level prerequisite courses with a grade B or higher. Depending on your background, some of these courses might include but are not limited to: anatomy and physiology, microbiology, nutrition, statistics, and chemistry. It's a good idea to review TCNJ's nursing prerequisite requirements online or to contact an admission advisor to ensure you meet these criteria.

Another important part of the transfer process involves your personal statement. This is your opportunity to illustrate why you're passionate about nursing, why you think you would be successful in the program, and what draws you to TCNJ’s program specifically. This is a key component of your application, as it can help distinguish you from other applicants.

Additionally, letters of recommendation are required. Try to get these from professors who can speak to your academic capabilities, especially in areas relevant to nursing such as science or math. If you've worked in any healthcare capacity (even as a volunteer), a recommendation from a supervisor can also be advantageous.

Lastly, you should note that the nursing program at TCNJ starts in the fall, so you would need to submit your application by the preceding February 15th deadline.

It's extremely worth noting that TCNJ’s nursing program is highly competitive and accepting transfer students could depend on space availability, so I'd advise starting the process as early as possible! Good luck with your application!
