Credit Transfer to College of New Jersey

How does the College of New Jersey handle transfer credits? I'm hoping to bring over a good number of credits from my current school. Any advice or personal experiences with their transfer credit evaluation?

From my understanding, the College of New Jersey (TCNJ) has a pretty thorough system in place for credit transfer. Their evaluation process mainly depends on the similarity of the completed coursework to the curriculum at TCNJ.

Generally speaking, to be considered for transfer, your classes must have been completed at an accredited institution, similar to courses offered at TCNJ, and you must have earned a grade of C or better. It's worth noting that grades from transferred courses do not calculate into your GPA at TCNJ, but the credits do count towards your graduation requirements.

Additionally, you can only transfer a certain amount of credits depending on your class year. For example, sophomores can transfer up to 16 course units, juniors up to 20, and seniors up to 24.

I would suggest creating a list of all the courses you've taken thus far along with their descriptions, and compare those to the courses offered at TCNJ. Check the course catalog or program requirements at TCNJ and see how the ones you've taken might align. This will help give you an idea of what classes could potentially be accepted.

Then, contact the TCNJ Office of Records and Registration to begin the official course evaluation process and they will be able to give you a more specific answer based on your particular situation. Remember, it's always a good idea to have multiple conversations with the transfer office to understand how your credits will be applied to your degree progress.

Preparation is key in the credit transfer process, and taking these steps should help you create a smoother transition to TCNJ. Good luck!
