Transfer credit process at USC Columbia

I'm considering transferring to USC Columbia but worried about how my credits will transfer over. Does anyone have experience with their transfer credit evaluation process? I want to avoid losing any credits if possible.

Sure, I can try to help answer your question.

The University of South Carolina Columbia has a detailed transfer credit policy. Specifically, the school does a course-by-course evaluation of all completed college-level work to determine transferable credits. For coursework to be considered for transfer, you typically need to have earned a C- or better in the class. Additionally, the course needs to be similar in nature, level, and content to a course in USC’s undergraduate curriculum and applicable to one of their academic programs.

One thing to note, however, is that while credit hours can transfer, your GPA won't. The grades you've earned in your transferred courses won't be factored into your GPA at USC Columbia.

It’s always recommended to talk with an adviser at USC Columbia to get a better understanding of what courses will transfer, especially if you're in a specialized or specific major. You can also use their online resource, Transferology, which is designed to show how coursework from other institutions may transfer to USC Columbia. Keep in mind that this tool only offers a general estimation and isn't a guarantee of accepted transfer credits.

Lastly, upon your admission, USC Columbia's transfer team provides an official transfer credit evaluation showing how previously earned credits will be recognized. This will be your reference for your transferred credits. The process of credit evaluation can take some time, so being patient and proactive with follow-ups are essential.

That being said, every transfer situation is unique. Inspecting your past courses in detail with an adviser is crucial to avoid any loss of credits and to ensure a smooth transfer process.
