Is a 1060 SAT score decent enough for college applications?

Hey there! I recently got my SAT scores back and I scored a 1060. I'm not sure if this is considered a good score for college admissions or not. Can someone let me know if this is an okay score or if I should consider retaking the exam? Thanks!

Hello! A 1060 SAT score can be considered decent for some colleges, but it depends on the types of schools you're planning to apply to. For more competitive schools, a higher score would be advantageous, whereas for less selective colleges, a 1060 might be adequate. To determine if your score is a good fit for the colleges you're interested in, you can look up the average SAT scores of accepted students at those schools and compare your score to their range.

If you find that your score falls below the average range for your target schools, it might be worth considering retaking the exam to improve your chances of admission. However, keep in mind that many colleges adopted test-optional policies due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and have kept them even in the years since, so you may no longer be required to submit your SAT score. Test-optional policies are nuanced, though, so to be sure you're understanding them correctly you may want to read more about them, on CollegeVine's blog: https://blog.collegevine.com/does-test-optional-mean-test-optional/.

In summary, a 1060 SAT score might be decent for some colleges, but it's essential to research the specific schools you're interested in to determine if your score aligns with their expectations. If it doesn't, retaking the exam could be a good option to strengthen your application. Good luck!
