What options do I have if my TSI requirements are not met?

I'm worried because I haven't met the TSI requirements for college transfer. Does that mean I can't transfer, or are there alternative paths or ways to fix this?

While it may seem disheartening, not meeting the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements doesn't mean it's the end of your transfer journey. There are a few options you can consider:

1. TSI Exemptions: Depending on your academic history and scores, you could be eligible for a TSI exemption. For example, a sufficient ACT or SAT score can exempt you from TSI, as can military service or coursework from a private or out-of-state college.

2. Re-take the TSI Assessment: You can have another go at the TSI Assessment. It does not have a limit on how many times you can take it, so you can use this opportunity to improve your score. I'd recommend reviewing the material and maybe even getting a tutor to help you prepare.

3. Developmental Courses: Another option would be to enroll in developmental courses to build the skills necessary to reach the TSI requirement. These are non-credit bearing courses and will not count towards your degree, but they prepare you for college-level coursework.

4. Adult Basic Education (ABE) Programs: These programs are designed to help adults improve their skills in reading, writing, and math before they retake the TSI Assessment. Check if any community colleges near you offer ABE programs.

Remember to communicate with your prospective college or university's admissions office about your situation. They can guide you on the best way forward and give you a clear idea of what you need to do to meet their requirements. Stay proactive and positive – there are always paths to reach your goal.
