How competitive is the transfer rate from College of Marin?

I'm thinking about starting at the College of Marin and then transferring to a four-year university. Does anyone know about the transfer rate from COM to universities, particularly UC schools?

The transfer rate from a community college like the College of Marin (COM) to a four-year university can vary a lot from year to year, due to factors like changes in the applicant pool, university admission rates, and academic preparation among transfer students. However, community college students in general often have a good chance of transferring to universities, particularly public universities in the same state.

As for transfers to the University of California (UC) system, the UC places a high priority on accepting transfers from California community colleges. The UCs even have something known as the Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) program that offers guaranteed admission to some UC campuses for students who meet certain criteria. UC Merced, UC Riverside, UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Irvine all participate in the TAG program.

However, keep in mind that the most competitive UCs like UC Berkeley and UCLA do not participate in the TAG program and have more competitive transfer processes. The transfer rates to these two schools from any community college will generally be lower, due to more competitive admissions standards and larger applicant pools.

It would be helpful to work with an advisor at the College of Marin, discuss your academic career plan, and ensure that you're taking necessary prerequisite courses, maintaining a high GPA, and fulfilling other transfer criteria. Many community colleges also have resources like UC transfer admission planners and information sessions to help prospective transfer students navigate this process. Through these resources, you can learn specific statistics about transferring to certain schools and plan accordingly. Good luck!
