Why don't some colleges show up on Common App for transfers?

I've noticed that not all colleges appear as options when I'm trying to apply as a transfer student through Common App. Does anyone know why this happens? I'm concerned about how it will impact my application process.

Many colleges and universities use the Common App as it offers a streamlined application process, enabling students to apply to multiple colleges with a single application. However, it's important to note that not all institutions are a part of the Common App, and this is even more true for transfers. One major reason for this is that transfer admissions can be more complex than first-year admissions. Variables such as transfer credits, course equivalencies, and space availability in specific majors or programs often require a more tailored application process that the Common App might not offer.

Some schools prefer to use their application portals to better handle these factors. For instance, many state university systems use their separate application portals. Furthermore, not every school that accepts the Common App for first-year applicants necessarily accepts it for transfer applicants. For example, some schools might only be set up to use the Common App for first-year applicants and may not have opted into the Common App for transfer students.

This certainly complicates the application process for transfer students as you may need to manage applications on multiple platforms. However, it doesn't mean you can't apply to these schools, it just means you'll have to find their specific transfer application on their website. Always cross-reference your list of schools with the information on the school's admissions website to ensure you're following the correct procedures, and don't hesitate to reach out to the admissions offices with any questions or concerns.
