CSU Transfer Requirements from Citrus College

I'm a student at Citrus College planning to transfer to a CSU soon. What are the essential requirements or steps I need to take to ensure everything goes smoothly? Would love some advice from those who've done it!

To transfer from Citrus College to a CSU (California State University), you need to follow the general CSU transfer requirements, but I suggest confirming these with an academic advisor at Citrus College, to be clear on school-specific policies.

Firstly, ensure that you have completed at least 60 semester units (or 90 quarter units) of transferable college credit with a GPA of at least 2.0. From these, at least 30 units should cover general education courses in the "Golden Four" areas: oral communication, written communication, critical thinking, and mathematics or quantitative reasoning.

Secondly, it's advisable to complete the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or CSU GE-Breadth to be eligible for general education certification, which simplifies the transfer process by covering all lower-division general education requirements at CSU.

Verify that your chosen CSU accepts IGETC or CSU GE-Breadth certification, as not all programs do. Some programs or campuses might have additional requirements.

Thirdly, select your intended major and complete the prerequisite courses for it. Many CSUs have major-specific articulation agreements that outline these prerequisites. Check the ASSIST.org website (a student-transfer information site) to see which courses at Citrus College correspond to prerequisite courses at different CSUs.

Lastly, apply to your desired CSU during the application filing period: October 1 to December 4 for the fall term, or August 1 to August 31 for the spring term. Ensure all your transcripts are submitted to your chosen CSU by the deadlines.

A heads-up: CSU campuses do not consider SAT or ACT scores in their admissions decisions, so you will not need to think about submitting standardized test scores.

Remember to keep in regular communication with your advisors both at Citrus College and at the CSU of your choice to navigate the transfer process smoothly.

After you're accepted, don't forget to submit your Intent to Register (SIR) and look out for any orientation or registration dates. Transfer students often have separate dates for these, so keep an eye on your CSU email and portal to stay updated on any changes or requirements.

I hope this helps and your transfer journey goes smoothly!
