Community College to CSU Transfer Requirements

I'm currently studying at a community college and looking to transfer to a CSU in the future. What are the general transfer requirements I should be prepared for? Any specific courses or GPA needed?

When you're looking at transferring from a community college to a CSU (California State University), there are a few specific requirements and considerations to keep in mind.

California Community Colleges have transfer agreements with CSUs, often referred to as the "Associate Degree for Transfer" (ADT) program. If you earn an associate degree for transfer at a California Community College and meet the CSU's minimum eligibility requirements, you can transfer and complete a similar bachelor's degree program at a CSU with 60 additional semester units (or 90 quarter units).

To be eligible for the program, you'll need a minimum GPA of 2.0, though some individual programs may require a higher GPA. You also typically need to be in good standing at the last college or university you attended.

In addition, you'll need to complete 60 semester units of coursework that is eligible for transfer to the CSU. This includes the General Education Breadth requirements or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC), along with a major or area of emphasis.

As part of these 60 units, you must complete at least 18 semester units in a major or area of emphasis and the remainder in general education. It's worth noting that the requirements can vary by specific CSU campus and by major or area of emphasis.

Remember to regularly meet with your community college advisor to make sure you're on track, as they can provide you with guidance tailored to your specific situation and goals.
