Solano Community College to CSU Transfer Requirements?

I'm a student at Solano Community College hoping to transfer to a CSU. What are the transfer requirements I should be focusing on? Any insights on course selection would be really helpful!

As a community college student interested in transferring to a CSU (California State University), you'll need to meet certain general education and major-specific coursework requirements, depending upon your intended field of study.

To become eligible for the transfer, you should first aim to earn 60 transferable semester units or 90 quarter units from your community college. It's recommended to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, but keep in mind that more competitive CSUs or majors have higher GPA requirements.

As part of your coursework, you'll need to satisfy the General Education-Breadth (GE) requirements or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC). These include areas such as English communication, mathematical concepts and quantitative reasoning, arts and humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and physical and biological sciences. You should consult with your academic advisor at Solano to ensure you're selecting the courses that meet these requirements.

Another crucial part of your transfer plan should be completing the lower-division courses for your intended major. Each major at a CSU has its own prerequisite and lower-division courses. You'd want to align your course selections with those prerequisites. Indeed, it's advisable to choose a major early on so that you can plan your coursework around it.

Lastly, don't forget the golden four. It's a CSU requirement that undergraduate students demonstrate competence in written communication, oral communication, critical thinking, and mathematics/quantitative reasoning by completing a single course in each of these four areas.

If you follow these directives, you'll be well on your way to successfully transferring from Solano to a CSU. Be sure to work closely with your current academic advisor to ensure you're on a successful path.
